— Our Story —
Tickwright, Petaling Jaya
Tickwright opened its doors on Jalan Gasing in 2011, at a time when finding a workshop in the Klang Valley that would properly examine a timepiece — rather than swap a battery and send it back — was more difficult than it should have been. The founding premise was straightforward: every watch that comes through the intake desk deserves a thorough look, a written account of what was found, and a clear conversation before any work begins.
Over the years the scope of work has settled into three defined service categories — chronograph function assessment, quartz module servicing, and crystal and gasket replacement. This narrowing was deliberate. Watchmaking done well requires depth, not breadth. The calibres and configurations we see regularly are the ones we can speak to with confidence, and we would rather acknowledge a limitation than attempt a repair beyond our current capability.
The workshop is staffed by two qualified watchmakers with backgrounds in both formal training and extended workshop practice. We work with mechanical and quartz timepieces across a wide range of marques, and our intake procedure is designed to be transparent at every stage — from the initial assessment report through to the return of the completed piece.
Tickwright is located at 18 Jalan Gasing, 46000 Petaling Jaya, Selangor. We are open Monday to Friday from 10:00 to 18:30, and on Saturday from 10:00 to 15:00. Appointments are encouraged but not required for initial consultations.

— Standards —
How we work.
Each of the following protocols applies to every piece that comes through the workshop, regardless of service type or value of the timepiece.
Written Assessment Reports
Every diagnostic produces a written report with photographs. Nothing is assumed or verbal — findings are documented before work begins.
Prior Written Approval
No repair is started without your explicit written agreement. This applies to every service, without exception.
Water Resistance Testing
Pressure testing follows applicable service work, using calibrated equipment. Limitations specific to each case design are disclosed clearly.
OEM-Matched Parts
Replacement components — including battery cells and gasket sets — are sourced from established suppliers and matched to original specifications.
Client Confidentiality
All intake records and client correspondence are handled with care. We do not share client or piece information with third parties outside of what the service requires.
Honest Capability Disclosure
If a piece falls outside our current capability, we say so at intake rather than accepting it. Clients are directed to more appropriate resources where we can.
— Expertise —
Watchmaking in the Klang Valley
Petaling Jaya sits within one of the more active watch markets in Southeast Asia, and the demand for qualified repair services has grown steadily alongside the collecting community. Tickwright was established specifically to address the gap between the collector's expectation of thoroughness and what was commonly available at the time — a market dominated by quick-turn battery swaps and cosmetic polishing that frequently compromised original finishes.
The workshop's focus on documentation is not incidental. Written reports create a shared record between the client and the watchmaker — one that can be referenced later, passed to future owners, or used as supporting documentation when a piece is subsequently serviced elsewhere. This approach reflects a practical understanding that a watch can outlast multiple owners and multiple repair relationships, and that each intervention deserves a clear record.
The three service categories at Tickwright — chronograph assessment, quartz module service, and crystal and gasket work — represent the areas where the workshop operates with the most consistent depth of knowledge and equipment. Other work is considered on a case-by-case basis and discussed candidly at intake.
